Description:	En México, la creciente demanda de energía eléctrica requiere de ampliar continuamente la infraestructura de generación, incluyendo la construcción de centrales termoeléctricas, preferidas, en comparación con otras tecnologías, por su corto periodo de construcción, baja inversión y amplia disponibilidad de combustibles. La construcción de una termoeléctrica es un megaproyecto con impactos ambientales potenciales considerables. Por esa razón, el proyecto de construcción requiere de un estudio para identificar, predecir, interpretar y prevenir los efectos del proyecto en el ambiente; el estudio de impacto ambiental. Sin embargo, esos estudios no siempre aportan los resultados esperados y las medidas de mitigación que proponen no son siempre adecuadas. En los proyectos termoeléctricos ejecutados en México no se ha analizado la utilidad del estudio preliminar de impacto ambiental para identificar impactos reales causados por su construcción. En este estudio se cuantificaron los impactos ambientales de la construcción de la Central Carboeléctrica del Pacífico (Petacalco, Guerrero) y se contrastaron con los identificados en el estudio de impacto ambiental reglamentario. Los impactos cuantificados incluyeron la generación de residuos (peligrosos y no peligrosos). In Mexico, the increasing demand of electric energy requires to extend the infrastructure for power generation, including the construction of thermoelectric power plants, preferred, among other technologies, because his short construction period, low cost investment and wide fuel availability. Because the construction of a thermoelectric power plant is a megaproject with considerable potential environmental impacts, these projects require of a study to identify, predict, interpret and prevent the effects of it on the environment; the environmental impact study. However, these studies not always provide the expected results and the proposed mitigation strategies not always are suitable. In none of the thermoelectric projects executed in Mexico, there has been a study to determine the usefulness of the preliminary environmental impact study to identify the real impacts caused for their construction. In this study the environmental impacts were quantified from the construction of the Carboelectrica del Pacifico power plant (Petacalco, Guerrero) and contrasted them with the impacts identified in the regulatory environmental impact study. The environmental impacts quantified included waste generation (dangerous and no dangerous).
