The plastics industry has grown in a surprising way, mainly during the last decades, for this reason, it is necessary to study new techniques to improve the plastic manufacturing processes, such as injection mold and extrusion. Recent improvements to this process have been seen on three main areas: the injection machines, the molds and the plastics. Nowadays, it is possible to improve the injection process by chemical preservatives such as plastificants, viscosity suppressors, slidings, etc. These products change the physical properties of the molten parts though. Furthermore, vibration techniques have appeared. However, up to now, these techniques have been limited to the injection machine modification, which makes the use complex and the acquisition expensive. This thesis presents a new methodology to improve the plastic injection process through vibration, applying the vibration in the mold. Moreover, vibration is proposed as a device to be used in the mold, which will simplify its application in the new molds as well as in the current molds. This research is limited to improve the filling step of the molding process. As part of this work, a theoretical analysis of physical phenomena that takes part is presented. It includes the design and manufacturing of experimental devices as a rheometer and vibration apparatus, which allow to demonstrate the advantages of vibration on this kind of process. Furthermore, an heuristic methodology to make the experimental step was proposed. The research revealed that it does exist an improvement in the filling step, showing an increase of around 20% on frequencies close to 3Hz. Furthermore, it is possible to conclude that the closer the application point from the vibration to the mold cavity is, the simpler and cheaper the application devices are.
