dc.descriptionEn este trabajo se estudia el juego de apuestas, su regulación y la moral detrás de la legislación en Nueva España durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Se propone que la fusión de la moral católica y la moral secular emergente en la Ilustración, promovió una mayor intolerancia hacia los juegos, desatando una proliferación de leyes producto de la preocupación moral de la autoridad; muy a pesar que diversos autores sugieren la ¿relajación de las costumbres¿ como explicación al mismo fenómeno. Para ello, Se analizó el discurso moral de la modernidad a través de algunos pensadores occidentales del siglo XVIII para comprender las bases morales que sustentaron las regulaciones en torno al juego. Se estudiaron numerosas disposiciones legales consultadas en La novísima recopilación de las leyes de España (1805) y Recopilación de las leyes de Indias (1680); así como bandos y cédulas reales y novohispanas revisadas en el Archivo General de la Nación y bibliografía diversa. De igual forma, se cotejaron varios expedientes documentales de trece ramos distintos del Archivo General de la Nación procedentes de diez ciudades del virreinato. A lo largo de la comparación de documentos del siglo XVII y XVIII, no se distinguió un aumento real en la práctica del juego; por lo tanto, inferimos que la causa de la multiplicación legal de la segunda mitad del XVIII no fue por un cambio en el comportamiento social, sino en el punto de vista de la autoridad. Jugar no solo era pecado, como ocurría en los siglos anteriores, para el siglo XVIII, jugar implicaba, además, un obstáculo para el progreso social y un grave deterioro cultural.es_ES
dc.descriptionIn this work are studied gambling regulation and moral behind the legislation in New Spain during the second half of the eighteenth century. It is proposed that the fusion of Catholic morality and the emerging secular morality in the Enlightenment, promoted greater intolerance towards games, sparking a proliferation of laws product of moral concern of the authority; very although several authors suggest the "relaxation of morals" as an explanation for the same phenomenon. For this, the moral discourse of modernity was analyzed through some western thinkers of the eighteenth century to understand the moral foundations that supported the regulations around the game. Consulted numerous legal provisions in ¿The Newest Collection of the Laws of Spain¿ (1805) and ¿Collection of Laws of the Indies¿ (1680) were studied; even some laws of New Spain reviewed in the General Archive of the Nation and diverse literature. Similarly, several documentary records of thirteen different branches of the General Archive of the Nation from ten cities of the Viceroyalty were compared. Throughout document comparison of the seventeenth and eighteenth century, a real increase was not distinguished himself in the practice of the game; therefore, we infer that the cause of the legal multiplication of the second half of the XVIII was not a change in social behavior, but in the view of authority. Play not only was a sin, as in previous centuries, the eighteenth century, the play also it meant an obstacle to social progress and a serious cultural deterioration.es_ES
