dc.description"The fatigue of swelling by moisture cycles and drying was described originally by Chen (1975), where he mentions that the pavements foundation on expansible clays subject to the seasonal changes, have a tendency to reach a stabilization point after certain number of years. In this work are reported tests of fatigue of swelling in order to evaluate the signs of this phenomenon that an expansible soil developssafter several moisture and drying cycles in laboratory. For this a black clay has been chosen with a high expansion potential, located in Juríca, Querétaro; Mexico. After determining the index properties of the soil, there were carried out several tests of fatigue of swelling using the consolidometer equipment and a proposed experimental procedure that completes the current normativity. The drying process was carried out by means of an electronic oven at a constant temperature that represents the maximum average of the area where the sample was extracted. Therefore, this work has as an objective to check the existence of this phenomenon in the soils and its possible applications in practical Engineering and investigation. In the total of tests carried out a tendency line is described that reflects the decrease of the percentage of one-dimensional expansion as the number of moisture and drying cycles increases. In the first cycles we could see the maximum value of percentage of expansion and that besides the expansible potential we could see the alteration of the soil sample by the relief of forces that occur in the sampling. Finally, as a result of the tests performed, this work reports that indeed the tested clay soil undergoes the phenomenon of fatigue of swelling by moisture and drying cycles, and that the proposed procedure accomplishes the outlined goal and, therefore, proves to the sufficient and valid tool to observe this phenomenon."es_ES
