In the Mexican revolution, the presence of woman was a determining factor among the revolutionaries. Some participated as Soldaderas, many times by force and without knowing why. There were also those who joined due to a revolutionary ideal, even becoming coronels or generals. Mexican movies from the thirties and forties of the 20th century made popular these revolutionaries with the figure of ¿Adelita¿; this became a hackeye and repetitive representation of values such as bravery, abnegation, marriage and motherhood, Given this panorama, I became interested in finding a film that portrayed these revolutionaries differently, and this is how I found ¿ La negra Angustias ¿, directed by Matilde Landeta in 1949. My objective was to analyze the elements that made this movie and it protagonist, Angustias, different as she was a coronel in a one of Zapata¿s troops with ideals such as justicie and liberty for the poor. She was also reluctant to marry and to accept the oppression of any man, showing behavior conventionally considered to be masculine. She breaks the stereotype of plain and simple female characters who reflect amorous more than military aptitudes. It is moreover important to underline the influence that a woman like Landeta had in directing this film; this made it important to delve into her personal and professional background. I thus reviewed various movies on the Revolution which were contemporary to that of Landeta in order to highlight the contrasts and singularities of the film studied. I also reviewed material from the cinematographic press with the purpose of situating the context of the film industry in those years. Finally, I consider that this proposal is relevant to gender history since it presents a dissident image of the female revolutionary which at the time tended to be reductionist, based on the moral values that situated Mexican woman in the status quo of abnegation. Regarding the cinematographic environment, I rescue the vision of a woman director, a pioneer in Mexican movies. Who went against the flow of female stereotypes with the intention of redressing the role of woman in Mexican societyes_ES
