Description:	En los últimos años, el periodismo ha librado una lucha en contra de la propaganda. A lo largo de su desarrollo ha buscado pasar de una fidelidad a los grupos de poder a un interés cívico; gracias al surgimiento de las teorías democráticas, el periodismo ha intentado cambiar de lealtad: el ciudadano. Sin embargo, la institución que le da soporte -la empresa periodística- ha corrompido las funciones que se le han atribuido tradicionalmente y lo han envuelto en una dinámica de información pagada y poder. Pese a esto y a las condiciones de inseguridad para desarrollar el periodismo en México, existen medios que luchan por mantener un poco más de independencia frente a los grandes emporios mediáticos; revelan información e intereses ocultos, vigilan, critican, denuncian y permiten la expresión de las ideas de sectores marginados. La presente tesis elabora un recorrido por los principios a los que debe responder el periodismo contemporáneo, pues actualmente vive una crisis de credibilidad, auspiciada, por un lado, por las prácticas editoriales de los directivos de los medios de comunicación; y por otro, por el ejercicio de los propios reporteros, quienes parecen no contar con la preparación adecuada para responder a la responsabilidad que conlleva el periodismo. Por ello, es necesario contribuir con la actualización y capacitación del periodista. Las páginas de este proyecto pretenden darle referentes teóricos para la reflexión sobre su actividad y para dar claridad a las funciones que, como tales, deben cumplir. Este material busca, además, ser una herramienta para las audiencias pues ellas mismas al tener claro el papel de la prensa, estarán en mejores condiciones de exigir y podrán involucrarse en la calidad de los contenidos que reciben. In recent years, journalism has waged a struggle against propaganda. Throughout its development has sought to move from being loyal to power groups to a civic interest; thanks to the emergence of democratic theories, journalism has tried to change loyalty: to the citizen (the reader). However, the institution that supports it, in other words, the newspaper company, has corrupted the functions that have traditionally been attributed to the press and has surrounded it into the dynamics of paid information and power. Despite this and the conditions of insecurity to develop journalism in Mexico, there is media which struggles to keep a little more independence from large media emporiums; reveal hidden information and interests, monitor, criticize, denounce and allow the expression of ideas of marginalized sectors. This thesis develops a journey throughout the principles to which contemporary journalism must respond, as currently experiencing a crisis of credibility, sponsored on one hand, by the editorial practices from managers of the media; and secondly, by the exercise of the reporters themselves, who do not seem to have the adequate preparation to respond to the responsibility that comes with journalism. It is therefore necessary to contribute to the updating and training of journalists. The pages of this project aim to give theoretical framework for the reflection on their activity and to give clarity to the functions which reporters must meet. This material is also intended to be a tool for the audience to be clear about the role of the press, in order for them to have a broader ability to demand and may be involved in the quality of the content they read.
