The internal combustion engines used in the automotive industry are based on ignition systems that increase the temperature, affecting the physicochemical properties of the lubricants used, which in turn increases the wear of the material due to the mechanical friction of the engine components. Tribology studies phenomena of friction, wear and lubrication of two surfaces in contact and in relative motion. The properties of materials synthesized at nanometric scales act differently than materials in bulk, mainly four nanolubrication mechanisms have been reported: rotating nanospheres, the formation of tribofilms as a result of tribochemical reactions, reparative effect due to the minimum size, and polishing. The synthesis of the metallic nanoparticles was carried out with validated methods. The nanoparticle synthesis method of Nickel, Zinc, Molybdenum, Aluminum and Copper, part of the obtaining by means of chemical reduction: Solvent, Metallic Precursor, Hydrolysis and Reducing Agent. Copper and Zinc powder nanoparticles were observed through the Transmission Electron Microscope JEOL-JEM 2000FX. The particle size was determined through the software ""ImageJ"". The metallic nanoparticles in suspension of the metals Nickel, Molybdenum and Zinc were characterized by UV-VIS Spectrophotometry. The nanoparticles synthesized in 3, 5 and 10wt% were added to the lubricants and their physicochemical (relative density and viscosity) and tribological properties were characterized using the Timken OK technique, measuring the necessary force to stop the system. Predominantly spherical nanoparticles were obtained between larger amorphous granules. Zinc nanoparticles obtained tended to agglomerate and presented more uniform spherical shapes than copper nanoparticles, whose average Zinc particle size was 18,733 nm and 37,730 nm for copper particles. The data obtained from the physicochemical tests and the tribological test showed optimal and relevant values to reinforce the advantages of metallic nanoparticles as additives of automotive lubricants. It can be seen that the maximum applied force of each of modified oils in the Timken OK test is greater than the values registered by pure oils. The sample with the best results obtained was modified oil with nickel nanoparticles in suspension at 10%, with an applied force value of 83.75 N, being an improvement of 43% compared to pure oil. The modifications obtained as a result of the addition of metallic nanoparticles to automotive lubricants were in any case favorable. The physicochemical properties vary with the metal used, having gain with certain samples.
