Description:	Scaptolenus LeConte 1854 es un género de escarabajos poco estudiado dentro de la familia Elateridae. La información relativa a los taxones se basa principalmente en las descripciones de especies y en un número limitado de estudios que informan sobre su biología. En la actualidad no existe un estudio sobre la distribución de este género. En el presente estudio se recopiló información correspondiente a la literatura y la información corológica existente, obteniendo un total de 348 registros con presencia en Estados Unidos, México, Guatemala, Costa Rica y Panamá. El conjunto de esta información se utiliza para estimar las principales condiciones macro climáticas capaces de explicar la distribución conocida y potencial de este género. La proyección cartográfica resultante identifica áreas poco muestreadas a lo largo del continente americano climáticamente favorables para futuras prospecciones a fin de mejorar el conocimiento biogeográfico de este género. Scaptolenus LeConte, 1854 is a poorly studied beetle genus within the family Elateridae. Information concerning the taxa is based primarily on species descriptions and a limited number of studies reporting on the basic biology. Presently, there is no study addressing the distribution of this genus. In the present study we collected information corresponding to literature and existing chorological information obtaining a total of 348 records with presences found in USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama. The set of this information is used to estimate the main macro climatic conditions capable of explaining the known and potential distribution of this genus. The resulting cartographic projection identifies poorly sampled areas along the American continent climatically favorable for future surveys to improve biogeographic knowledge of this genus.
