When a structure is designed, is important to include in the same process, the considerations of the design and theoretical optimizations, as well as the circumstances that are affected during the construction process and during the period of the useful life of the structure. With a multi-objective analysis in an objective function of “self-weight" a complete optimization of the structures is obtained. To solve the multi-objective optimizations, containing the theoretical and practical considerations, in this work we proceed to find the best possible topology of a lattice steel tower to be used in a heliostat field of a central tower concentrating thermo-solar energy. To obtain the topology, a simple comparison of three different structural shapes is made, taking into account the self-weight, the lateral displacements produced by the wind, the functionality, the efficiency of energy collection, constructability, capacity to be optimized, to be modular and transportable. A lattice tower with a hexagonal base, formed by modules of lateral-restricted frames (chosen as best topology), is used to be optimized by a Modified Genetic Algorithm, using as restrictions the requirements under design and service loads stablished in the “Reglamento de Construcción del Distrito Federal versión 2017”, and having as objective function the weight and discrete variables in the analysis. As a tool for the evaluation of the objective function and its restrictions, the tower was programmed with APDL language, using the Finite Element Method. Product of this optimization was reduced the weight in a 38.6% between an initial generation 1 of 15.93 Tn, and a final generation 48 of 9.78 Tn. The tower obtained through optimization with the genetic algorithm is 25.71% lighter compared to that obtained through an optimization using the commercial program SAP2000 (12.30 Tn).es_ES
